Dan Gillis joined Bayside Anglican Church in Jan 2018. Dan is married to Sarah, and together they enjoy raising their children: Elijah (7); Isaac (5); Adina and Georgia (1).
Dan made a commitment to follow Christ in 2008 while an Army Officer Cadet at the Australian Defence Force Academy. In 2009, Dan became the president of ADFA FOCUS, an AFES-affiliated group. Since 2011, Dan has been serving as a logistics officer in the Australian Regular Army, which has involved lots of moving and an operational deployment overseas. Dan has maintained regular involvement in small group ministries through church and FOCUS Military Ministry. In 2017, Dan was accepted as an In-Service Candidate for Chaplaincy in the Army to commence a Bachelor of Divinity at Moore Theological College in 2018.
Dan’s role as a Student Minister at Bayside Anglican includes teaching the Bible, small-group leading and mentoring, as well as training and encouraging church members to follow Christ in their lives. Dan hopes and prays that the congregations of Bayside Anglican will be equipped to share the gospel across the diverse communities within Bayside Council so that many will know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and commit to following him.
Dan is a deep thinker, and he enjoys reading and writing about current economic, political and social issues from a Christian perspective. Dan enjoys social sport and the outdoors, following the AFL, playing board games, fine wine, craft beer and coffee! However, Dan is mostly an acrobat – walking a tight-rope while juggling a wife, four children, student ministry, friends, full-time studies, part-time hobbies, and growing an epic beard for the first time in 11 years.
